New degree program focuses on intersection of finance and technology with insights into decentralized finance
PHOENIX, July 10, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The University of Phoenix College of Business and Information Technology has launched a new Bachelor of Science in Finance and Technology (BSFIN) degree program to prepare students for the demands of modern business at the intersection of finance and technology. BSFIN, University of Phoenix’s career-focused undergraduate degree program, is designed with flexibility for working adult learners, with up to 20 start opportunities per year, 24/7 online classrooms and the ability to focus on one five-week course at a time.
“Finance and technology are deeply intertwined and rapidly evolving,” said Katherine Euless, dean of the College of Business and Information Technology. “This degree program was designed with input from practitioner faculty and an advisory board to prepare students for careers in finance and provide them with an understanding of technological advancements and regulatory changes in an ever-changing industry.”
Careers in finance appear to be growing: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, financial analyst jobs are projected to grow 8% between 2022 and 2032. BSFIN degree programs help prepare students to work as a financial analyst, financial manager, investment analyst, portfolio manager, financial advisor, or financial planner.
The Bachelor of Science in Finance and Technology (BSFIN) program focuses on the functional areas of finance and helps students develop the financial analysis and planning skills necessary to work effectively in a variety of business environments. Upon completing the BSFIN degree, students will gain skills to:
Evaluate the financial strategies and practices used to manage financial instruments, portfolios, and capital flows.
Evaluate the aspects of financial planning used to grow, manage and protect your assets.
Analyzes financial data used for financial accounting, planning, control, and decision making.
Evaluate the use of financial tools and technologies used to deliver financial services, analyze data, drive competitive advantage, and improve performance.
In the degree curriculum, students will explore financial technology by discovering the technologies used in the financial sector to provide banking, investments, payments, insurance and other services. They will gain insight into decentralized finance (DeFi), including blockchain technology, secure distributed ledgers, smart contracts, cryptocurrencies and decentralized exchanges (DEXs). Students will also appreciate the tools used to maintain the security of personal data and financial transactions.
The story continues
The Bachelor of Science in Finance and Technology program provides students with a general foundation in financial planning and analysis and the various financial tools and technologies across the financial services industry. This program is not intended to, and does not lead to, any certification or licensure, including certification as an investment advisor or as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
Each BSFIN course is mapped to three skills and skill outcomes that students will master: In developing the program, business and information technology faculty leaders, faculty, and curriculum experts worked with labor market researchers to align with in-demand skills and ensure students have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate skills in their coursework.
This BSFIN degree program requires 120 credits to complete.
