Detroit-area school district parents outraged over hiring of former Oxford principal 04:00
Jim Harbaugh has been inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
Harbaugh was named to the top of the Hall of Fame list announced Friday night, honored for his work as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, capping his career with a national championship four decades after he was a star quarterback at the University of Michigan.
He will be honored Oct. 17 at Detroit’s Soundboard Theatre along with former Michigan State football players Braylon Edwards, Jake Long and Larry Foote, as well as Michigan State basketball’s all-time leading scorer, Shawn Respert.
Former Tigers Ivan Rodriguez and Cecil Fielder, former Detroit Shock star Deanna Nolan and Michigan State University goaltender and three-time Vezina Trophy winner Tony Esposito were also selected for induction.
Ken Holland, general manager of the Edmonton Oilers and a four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Red Wings, was also selected as a contributor.
Former Pistons and Detroit Mercys great Earl Cureton, who passed away in February, will be honored as a Michigan treasure at the induction ceremony. The late Don Shane, sports director at WXYZ-TV for more than 20 years, will be inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame’s media division.
