Focusing on the spread of alternative sweetener allulose and water-soluble dietary fiber resistant dextrin
SEOUL, South Korea — Samyang Co., Ltd. is accelerating its efforts to popularize its specialty (high-performance) ingredients and expand into overseas markets by continuously participating in global food-related exhibitions.
SANYO Co., Ltd. (CEO: Choi Nag-hyun) announced that it will participate in the International Food Technology Expo (IFT 2024) to be held in Chicago, USA from July 15th to 17th.
The exhibition is organized annually by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and is the world’s largest food technology event, with over 1,300 companies from over 100 countries participating.
Samyang has previously promoted the superiority of its specialty ingredients at the Natural Products Expo West (NPEW) 2024 in March, the International Food Ingredients & Additives (IFIA) Exhibition and Conference 2024 in Japan in May, and the Seoul International Food Industry Fair 2024 in June.
At the expo, the company focused on promoting the alternative sweetener allulose and the water-soluble dietary fiber resistant dextrin, and provided tasting samples using these ingredients to help visitors better understand them. The tasting samples included sugar-free keto ice cream, plant-based jelly bars, and protein bars that use allulose to reduce calories and resistant dextrin to increase dietary fiber content.
Allulose is a sugar found in figs and grapes that is about 70% as sweet as sugar but has almost no calories, making it an effective alternative sweetener. Samyang developed liquid allulose based on its proprietary enzyme technology in 2016 and began mass production at its Ulsan plant in 2020. The following year, it launched the B2B brand “Nexweet®,” which stands for “next-generation healthy sweetener,” and entered the global market in earnest.
Samyang’s allulose is characterized by its fructose-like properties and refreshing sweetness, and is used in a variety of food categories across Korea, including beverages, dairy products, sauces, syrups and frozen desserts.
Resistant dextrin is a water-soluble dietary fiber that is a health functional food ingredient that improves bowel movements, suppresses the rise in blood sugar levels after meals, and improves blood triglyceride levels. Samyang Co., Ltd. has focused on the synergistic effect of this functional ingredient and allulose, which is specialized in cutting carbohydrates, and has produced liquid and powdered resistant dextrin under the brand name “Fiberest®,” which means “the best dietary fiber.”
Samyang Co., Ltd. CEO Choi Nag-hyun said, “Recently in the United States, products that are not only low in sugar and calories but also high in dietary fiber have been gaining popularity. Targeting this trend, our company is proposing solutions that use allulose and resistant dextrin to potential customers. We plan to actively participate in global food exhibitions to expand our presence in overseas markets.”
Meanwhile, Samyang plans to showcase its leading food ingredient technology at upcoming events such as the Health Ingredients Expo (Hi) in Japan, Supply Side West (SSW) in the U.S., and Food Ingredients North America later this year.
