NEW DELHI: Medicines are usually given intravenously because oxygenated blood flows through arteries at high pressure and penetrating an artery with a needle can increase blood loss. Healthcare workers can sometimes have difficulty finding a patient’s vein, leading to delays in treatment.
Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra shared a video on social media platform X showcasing a new technology that uses infrared light to detect veins.
“It uses infrared light to pinpoint vein locations, eliminating the need to repeatedly search for veins when drawing blood,” he writes.
Praising the technology, the Mahindra Group Chairman said, “It is often the smallest, most unglamorous inventions that vastly improve our experience of healthcare and ultimately our quality of life.”
Since its release, the video has been viewed over 680,000 times, with many users sharing their thoughts in the comments section.
“This is great, it can prevent a lot of phobias. From personal experience, if this was practical a lot of trauma could be avoided. Helps professionals and patients,” one user wrote.
“My local blood testing center needs this technology. The nurse at my annual checkup lanced my hand four times last year,” said another user.
Another user said, “This will be really helpful. My mom faces this challenge when doing blood tests and needs an experienced person to identify the veins. This technology can empower many people in the medical industry.”
