RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) – Cock of the Walk is back open for business after its owners closed the restaurant on Wednesday.
The closure came after a viral video from inside the restaurant caught the attention of health inspectors.
Insects, rodents and animals were present at the restaurant, according to the Department of Health’s website.
Additionally, the restaurant did not comply with sewage wastewater treatment regulations.
Following Tuesday’s inspection, the restaurant received a C rating in the health department’s report, meaning there were “significant violations.”
Their grades are now B’s.
The Ridgeland location was closed due to a burst pipe, said Bill Prysock, president of Cock of the Walk restaurants.
Prysock also said the restaurant has been in business for 44 years and had never received a failing rating during that time until this week’s inspection.
The restaurant’s Food Establishment Inspection Findings form noted that food items had no lids, counters were dirty to the touch and look, the TCS Foods walk-in refrigerator was not properly designed or labeled, rat droppings were found, the restaurant’s previous inspection report was not posted, and a broken pipe caused water to flow onto the floor where employees walked and stood.
Cock of the Walk will be inspected again in 90 days.
