The Co-op has signed a new partnership with US retail giant Walmart to introduce its online fulfilment technology, Store Assist.
In a statement, the Co-op said the move would improve customer experience and help it achieve its goal of capturing more than a third of the quick commerce market.
The Store Assist app allows retailers to manage “pickup, third-party marketplace, ship from store and last-mile delivery orders” all in one place.
George Heyworth, the Co-op’s head of online development, said: “Growing our share of the quick commerce market is a key area of focus for us, both through our own online shop and through strategic partners. Our approach is centred on the ease, speed and convenience of local stores, located at the heart of their communities.”
“We are pleased to work closely with Walmart Commerce Technologies to introduce new technology that is easy to use and supports our continued growth, while further enhancing the fast, reliable service that is important to our member-owners and customers no matter when and where they shop with us.”
As a result of accelerating growth in its quick commerce business, The Co-op estimates that more than 80% of the UK population can now access The Co-op’s grocery products through its own online shop, or through partners such as Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo.
