China’s government warned on Friday that escalating tensions with the European Union over electric vehicle imports could spark a trade war, as Germany’s economy minister arrived in the Chinese capital with proposed tariffs at the top of his agenda. Robert Harbeck’s three-day visit to China is the first by a senior European official since the EU proposed imposing steep tariffs on imports of Chinese-made electric cars to tackle excessive subsidies, a proposal that drew countermeasures from China and sharp criticism from Chinese leaders. Just this week, Chinese automakers urged Beijing to raise tariffs on imports of gasoline-powered vehicles from Europe,…

Samsung and MediaTek have successfully tested 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) technology on a virtualized radio access network (vRAN), which could potentially extend battery life for IoT devices. The test, conducted at Samsung’s R&D lab in South Korea, used the RedCap test platform, which includes Samsung’s vRAN 3.0 software, an OpenRAN compliant radio and MediaTek’s M60 modem. The trial focused on energy-saving techniques such as Paging Early Indication (PEI) and enhanced Discontinuous Reception (eDRX) and confirmed the effective integration of RedCap capabilities with vRAN and Open RAN. PEI proactively notifies devices of paging signals, waking them less frequently and allowing them…

Let’s start with a controversial claim: I don’t believe dark matter and dark energy exist. I think these ideas stem entirely from a misguided assumption about the laws of physics. The idea of dark matter arose about a century ago, when astronomers looking at distant galaxies noticed they were moving a lot faster than their observable mass would allow, according to our laws of gravity and relativity. Scientists then believed, and still do, that there is some “missing” mass within galaxies which accounts for these higher-than-expected velocities. Coined dark matter, it is thought to account for 85% of all mass…
