TEHRAN – The head of the Islamic World Institute for Scientific Citations (ISC) said that Iran leads among Islamic countries in the number of publications in the field of water science and technology.
According to data released by the Web of Science database, Iran holds the top position among major Islamic countries in many areas of water technology, including multi-stage flash distillation, multiple-effect distillation, vapor compression distillation, reverse osmosis or reverse permeability, and membrane distillation, the Iranian News Agency quoted Ahmad Fazilzadeh as saying.
The US and China rank first and second, respectively, in terms of the number of scientific papers published in the Web of Science, he added.
Mohammed Hemat, from the Office of the Vice President for Science and Technology of Iran, said that in 2022 Iran was ranked the fourth-largest country in the world in water technology.
The Iranian news agency quoted Hemat as saying that through targeted plans, the country intends to rank third in the field.
He added that in 2021, the country was ranked sixth in the world by the prestigious ranking website SCImago.
“Currently, according to the published rankings, only three countries – China, the US and India – rank higher than Iran in this scientific field, while all European countries rank lower than Iran.”
He concluded that over the past 25 years, Iran has outperformed many countries, including the UK, Germany, Canada, France, Russia, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and Norway.
