OUTER BANKS, N.C. — Summer is almost over for students in Dare County Schools and the 2024-2025 school year is about to begin. Dare County Schools leaders are hoping a new student navigation system called “Infinite Campus” will make communication better than ever.
“Parents need to know what’s going on in school. They need to know what their kids are doing, what grades they’re getting, what classes they’re taking. And improving communication as much as possible at any level is something we’re always looking to do,” Dare County Superintendent of Schools Steve Basnight said.
The North Carolina Department of Education implemented a transition to “Infinite Campus” in the fall of 2023, and Dare County Schools wanted to be part of the first phase of the statewide rollout.

Dare County school leaders are excited that teachers, students and families will have everything they need on one platform.
“It’s a one-stop shop, it’s comprehensive and it has features not found on other platforms, like parent access to key lesson plans, transcripts and other learning records that can be printed from the comfort of home,” said Holly King, technology director for Dare County Schools.
“The system has a financial component, allowing parents to pay for prom tickets or an upcoming field trip within the portal – something that hasn’t existed in previous student information systems,” King said.

Dare County teacher housing is being seen as a potential model for solving the workforce housing shortage.
The technology has come as a breath of fresh air for Dare County Schools, especially after they complained to the state about challenges they had with their previous vendor.
“The state was able to find exactly what we were looking for and provided a lot of resources, which was a great help,” Basnight said.
The portal is open to new students, and families of current students should watch for information on how to access it starting this week.
