Slipping between the simple yet satisfying sandbox feel of Minecraft and the complex simulation of Factorio, Satisfactory lives up to its name as the “just right” meal in the world of automated building games. After five years, Satisfactory 1.0 is finally set to release from Early Access in September, and developer Coffee Stain Studios has announced that it will feature an entirely new tech tier.
Before leaving for the holidays, Community Manager Snutt Treptow announced another milestone coming with Satisfactory 1.0. “This is something we’ve already kind of predicted from previous videos,” he says with a smile, “but we want to confirm this once and for all.” We already know that the building game’s full release will wrap up the main storyline, but Treptow revealed that you’ll also gain access to new Tier 9 technology.
Most of 1.0’s new features (apart from the highly-touted flushing toilets) are centred around the endgame, specifically completing Project Assembly, which involves building a giant space elevator. This has long been a core part of Satisfactory’s progression, with each phase of the project opening up new milestone tiers and giving access to an entire set of additional buildings and item recipes.
Previously, Phase 4 of the project marked its completion, but that changes with 1.0. Completing Phase 4 unlocks access to a new ninth tier of milestone rewards, which Treptow says is “the final tier unlocked in the game.” It remains to be seen what technology we’ll see in this ultimate choice, but I’m already scouring the teaser images shown at the end of the trailer for clues.
This new addition will make it much easier to meet the requirements to complete the fourth phase of Project Assembly. Assembly Director Systems now require 500 (down from 4,000), Magnetic Field Generators require 500 (down from 4,000), Thermal Propulsion Rockets require 250 (down from 1,000), and Nuclear Pathogens require 100 (down from 1,000). [previous] The requirements were placeholders and deliberately set very high,” Treptow explains.
Satisfactory 1.0 will be released on Tuesday, September 10th. Please note that the price of Satisfactory will be increasing soon. Coffee Stain says that the price increase will happen before the official release date, so if you want to play 1.0 when it is released, we recommend grabbing your copy now before the change goes into effect.
