Google Maps is bringing two features — speedometer and speed limit — to iPhones that were released for Android in over 40 countries, including India, in May 2019. These two features are also coming to CarPlay to help iPhone users avoid speeding tickets.
The feature was first spotted by TechCrunch in India, and Google later confirmed to the publication that it plans to roll out the feature to iPhone users globally.
What is the speedometer and speed limit function?
The speedometer feature allows users to check their speed in Google Maps, but Google says that the speedometer displayed in the app is for informational purposes only and that users should “use their vehicle’s speedometer to verify their actual driving speed.”
On the other hand, the speed limit alert will let you know if you are going too fast. If you exceed the speed limit, the speed indicator will change color.
“External factors may cause the speedometer in Maps to differ from your actual speed,” Google notes.
How to turn on the speedometer and speed limit features
Users can turn on or off the speedometer and speed limit on supported devices and markets.
On your Android phone or iPhone, open the Google Maps app. Tap your profile picture or the first account circle, then tap[設定]Tap to open navigation settings.[運転オプション]to turn the speedometer on/off.
If the Speed Limit feature is available in your area, you can tap “Speed Limit” while navigating to turn the speedometer on or off.
The feature was first featured on Google’s navigation app Waze before rolling out to Google Maps. Apart from speed, Google Maps also shows speed cameras and mobile speed cameras in several countries around the world.
