Maine State Music Theatre is pleased to announce its second production of the 2024 season: the iconic Broadway musical “Funny Girl.” In an unprecedented move, MSMT has been granted exclusive rights to produce the popular show after its Broadway tour, making it the first company to bring “Funny Girl” to Maine audiences after its Broadway run.
“Funny Girl” follows the inspiring and eventful journey of legendary comedian Fanny Brice from New York’s Lower East Side to becoming one of the biggest stars of Broadway’s Ziegfeld Follies. With an original book by Isobel Lennert and a timeless score by Jules Stein and Bob Merrill, including unforgettable hits such as “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “Funny Girl” celebrates resilience, ambition and the power of the human spirit.
Artistic Director Kurt Dale Clark expressed his excitement for this historic production: “We are honored to be entrusted with the task of bringing ‘Funny Girl’ to the Maine stage. Fanny Brice’s story is one of overcoming adversity and we believe it will resonate deeply with audiences.”
Directed and choreographed by Kenny Ingram, who also worked on last year’s hit 9 to 5: The Musical, MSMT’s production of Funny Girl will capture the heart and spirit of the original Broadway production while infusing it with fresh energy and creativity. With a rich history and timeless themes, Funny Girl will delight audiences of all ages.
MSMT’s “Funny Girl” stars Jenna Lee Rosen (Fanny Brice), Douglas Williams (Nick Arnstein), Tyler Johnson Campion (Eddie) with fan-favorite Sue Sela reprising her role as Fanny’s mother, Mrs. Brice. Rosen most recently played the lead role of Mabel Normand in Los Angeles’ “Mac & Mabel” starring Dermot Mulroney and has appeared in a variety of television, film and voiceover projects. The cast also includes Mark Aldrich, Tommy Betts, Joe Capstick, Mary Beth Donahoe, David Girolmo, Tauren Hagans, Michelle Beth Herman, Charis Leos, Jeremiah Valentino Porter, Mandy Rapoza, Alexander Rios and Josh Williams.
Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the magic of “Funny Girl” with the Maine State Music Theatre, running June 26-July 13 at the Pickard Theatre in Brunswick.
