The power of sports can create deep bonds between families, and in Charlotte, one family’s rich wrestling past is now producing the next generation of great athletes from our neighborhood.
The first time Carson McArthur walked into a wrestling gym he knew he’d found his passion.
“I went to wrestling practice and I couldn’t take my eyes off the mat,” Carson McArthur said.
This passion was also learned from his uncle, Josh Dormer, a former state champion wrestler at Eaton Rapids High School.
“Uncle Josh is also our wrestling coach and his whole family wrestles,” Carson McArthur said.
Eleven-year-old Carson is part of a family that inherited the wrestling gene — and so far, it’s been a huge success.
MacArthur won 25 medals in his first three years of wrestling.
“This is the Viking Wars from last summer,” Carson McArthur said.
He has been invited to represent Eaton County at the national tournament in Ohio this summer, and another member of the family, his mother, Brittany, is proud that her son is carrying on the family tradition.
“I think it’s a blessing. We almost consider it a family tradition,” said Carson’s mother, Brittany McArthur.
